The authorities of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate on Saturday recovered a total of 56 pieces of gold bars hidden under a seat of a plane which came from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The Customs intelligence authorities recovered the gold bars, weighing about 6.524 Kg and worth around Tk 4.58 crore, from the flight BG-148 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, CIID’s additional director Md Bashir Ahmed told New Age.

‘The flight was from Dubai in the UAE and it landed at Chattogram airport at 8:22am. Based on secret information, a CIID team launched a drive at the plane when it arrived. We found the gold bars hidden under a business class seat of the plane,’ he said.

The Customs intelligence authorities, however, were not able to find out the owner or carrier of the gold bars, the official said.

The CIID authorities would file a case accusing unidentified persons with the Patenga police station over the matter, he added.

Earlier on June 16, 2022, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate officials arrested a passenger of a plane with 1.244 kg gold and 9 kg shisha at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport who came from the United Arab Emirates by the flight BG-148 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
